BATOULY CAMARA, MS
Batouly Camara is a distinguished speaker, accomplished author, and the founder of Women and Kids Empowerment (W.A.K.E), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting girls' empowerment, women's sports, education, and social entrepreneurship globally. As a former NCAA D1 athlete and retired professional basketball player, Batouly has an impressive list of accomplishments.
Born and raised in New York with family roots in Guinea, West Africa, Batouly Camara proudly identifies as a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and Muslim humanitarian. Her accolades include being named a Forbes Sports 30 Under 30 Honoree, recipient of the 2020 ESPYs Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award, UNITE 2030 Youth Delegate, and a distinguished TEDx and international speaker. Batouly served as the head girls basketball coach at Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ, and is now pursuing her Ph.D. in UMass Amherst's Sport Inclusion program.
Batouly's journey to success began with ESPN ranking her as the 9th best high school prospect in the country. She went on to have a remarkable collegiate career, playing for both the University of Kentucky and UConn under the legendary Geno Auriemma, the winningest D1 women's basketball coach in history. Her athletic achievements include three Final Four appearances, two years as a U18 USA Basketball invitee, and representing the Guinean National Team. She also played professionally in Spain.
Beyond her athletic career, Batouly Camara is a passionate advocate for girls' empowerment. She founded W.A.K.E to provide opportunities and resources to young girls worldwide. In 2020, she authored her first children's book, "A Basketball Game on Wake Street," which tells an inspiring story of assembling a diverse basketball team, emphasizing the values of humanitarianism.
One of Batouly's most ambitious goals is to create the first all-girls basketball academy in Guinea. This academy will offer girls the resources needed to excel in basketball, including professional development training and scholarships. Batouly Camara's dedication to empowering young girls and women through education and sports is a testament to her remarkable journey and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the world.
